Oscars – Neil Gaiman, cute and gentleman-y

Well, you knew Coraline wasn’t going to win. We all did. I actually teared up a few times when Up did win it’s various awards, especially for Best Score. I thought the music from that movie was very sweet.

Let’s talk Gaiman.

First of all, color me pleasantly surprised that the picture he tweeted before was the jacket unfinished. DOH! Me = stupid. The final result was very clean and very dapper. Not grey and panel-y and weird at all.  Check him out, checking us out, in his hotel bathroom.  Why oh why did I develop a crush on you so late in life? And by late I mean too late to snag you myself, lol? Amanda Palmer, you are one lucky lady.

The most endearing picture to come out of the Oscars regarding our dark haired writer is from the LA Times. The newspaper was taking these panorama pictures of the red carpet for their website and captured a really cute moment. Check out Gaiman pondering Rachel McAdam’s watercolor print Elie Saab gown.

What are you thinking Gaiman?  ”That’s pretty. Just don’t step on it.”  LOL

So Neil… sorry you didn’t win. Sorry you couldn’t have Amanda there with you. And I am very very sorry that yesterday was the anniversary of your father’s death.  It was a bittersweet day, but you handled it with humor and grace. Nicely done.

Oscars – What Happens When you Text Dolphin?

I put this on Twitter earlier today but it seems to keep coming up in the news. So the question is: what happens if you text “dolphin” to the number the feature-length documentary guys flashed at us before ABC cut-away?

Answer: You’re signing up to get info about saving dolphins in Japan. http://bit.ly/c41rri

Basically you are opting in to get spammed with a whole lot of stuff about saving dolphins. You aren’t giving money. It’s just an opt-in.

Oscars – The Kanye West Lady

If you watched the Oscars last night you was the Mrs. Garrett look-alike burst onto the stage and totally hijack some documentary filmaker’s acceptance speech.  Apparently she was a co-producer at one point, but because of creative differences between herself and the man that won, she sued him & HBO films. She left the production over a year ago.

Holy cripes was it awful to watch.

Salon was able to do a Q & A with both individuals this morning.

Neil Gaiman’s Oscar Suit

Neil Gaiman tweeted about this yesterday. This is the suit he’ll be wearing this Sunday at the Oscars. My initial reaction that it it’s Tim Burton-y and it fits his style, but…. I don’t really like it.  It needs some crazy arm candy.  I think the reason Tim Burton’s crazy style works is because he’s got Helena Bonham Carter on his arm. Amanda Palmer in her Golden Globe dress was awesome. I’m still sad she’s not able to go to the Oscars. He’s just going to look like a dark haired dude who isn’t going to win an Oscar in this. (sorry Neil, you know it’s true. Up will win best animated feature.)

Sadness – No Amanda Palmer at the Oscars

Neil Gaiman just tweeted that Amanda Palmer will not be his date at the Oscars.  She’s going to be playing a concert instead. Sadness for my new favorite couple.

“Lots of people asking if @amandapalmer will be my date to the Oscars. Alas, she’ll be playing Sydney Opera House then.”

But in potentially AWESOME date news he jokingly tweets “”I will only take @thatkevinsmith to the Oscars if he wears a beaded dress and silicone nipple pads. No. Wait a minute.”

PLEASE entertainment gods, make this happen. Words cannot describe how incredible it would be if Kevin Smith showed up at the Oscars in this dress.

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning.

Nothing all that surprising really.

Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer

A few weeks back, Go Fug Yourself featured pictures of singer Amanda Palmer changing into her dress on the red carpet at the Golden Globes like some crazy performance artist. Also in the pictures, super geeky cool writer, Neil Gaiman.

At this I paused.

I was like WTF? Neil Gaiman?! I totally thought you were married for some reason.

Nay, the interwebs say. Neil and Amanda are a couple. They started dating this past summer and they are now engaged.

So I logged into my dusty old Twitter account and yes indeed these two are a very sweet Tweeting couple. Neil Gaiman is a regular Tweeter (you can follow that dude all day long, much like Kevin Smith) and his tweets about his sweetie are really very endearing.  She’s got some really interesting long-ass blog entries on her own site too.

So Neil and Amanda were today’s web obsession. I’m kind of jealous. They make a very cool couple.

Golden Globes

Watched most of the Golden Globes last night. I usually start nodding off when they say “coming up next.. The Cecille B. DeMille award” and last night was no different. So I didn’t see the big awards like Best Drama, but I saw enough to be entertained.

Fashion was ok. I was distracted by the perfect golden globe nature of Halle Berry’s breasts seeing as she’s had a baby in her 40s, but Google and smarter people than me swear they are real. Between the thinness of the dress and the low-cut, I want to know want kind of duct tape is lifting them up like that if they are indeed real. Because I’ve got plenty in the rack-section and trust me… mine would not look like that in that dress.

I liked Christina Aguilera’s dress for her, but it was very Lady Gaga-like. Problem with that observation is that when you’re a pop star like Xtina, the last thing you need is a total nerd like myself saying… hey that’s a nice dress. It reminds me of this other pop star.

Sandra Bullock’s purple dress was pretty but an odd fabric.

Jennifer Aniston showed up in another boring black dress with her beach hair. Yawn.

Jennifer Garner was gorgeous.

And poor Tiny Fey looked silly in her 1950′s Back to the Future prom dress.

All-in-all a good show though. I enjoyed it.
