Work of Art – Miles Bares All

Miles! You magnificent bastard. As much as I make fun of you, you are seriously one of my favorite reality tv contestants of any show ever. I freakin’ love you dude. Thanks for baring your ass to world in this episode. Yes we all saw it.  I guess you really do sleep in the nude and wander around in a comforter.  And when Nicole talked about writhing around on your art piece in jello – haha. Your reaction was priceless. You cute little weirdo. I hope she did go out on a date with you after the show stopped taping. I really do.

So lets get down to the nitty gritty of this episode which finally brought us to the final 3 contestants. The challenge was to go to the woods and be inspired by nature.

Jaclyn pretty much wanted to vomit all over the concept and the work room. As she struggled with making the challenge work, she reverted back to her stand-by – taking a picture of herself nude.  She probably would have done it in the woods had it not been so cold and icky. Instead, she did it in the bathtub well after the fact in the comfort of their NYC apartment. When Jaci asked the other contestents if it would be ok for her to use it, they all stood silent and super pissed. Basically they were like… uh NO… that’s against the rules.  So she didn’t. Jaci relied on some pictures of water with a pipe and a rock. Everyone said it was “conceptually” solid. Come again? What exactly is the concept here that is so solid? I don’t see it. All I see is someone who couldn’t do what they like to do, said fuck-you to the challenge and fell back on art school nonsense to try and sell it. This art didn’t work. She got the boot.

Abdi, god bless him, got his act together and drew a very stunning self portrait. For a layperson like me, I could understand how that really was art. I couldn’t do that. I was impressed. He won. He’s in the finals. Good for him.

Miles made this incredibly complicated contraption to punch holes in plastic and let bleach drip through. It was all related to some tree fungus he found in the woods.  It was a real of a whack-a-doo process, but even I was like — wow. Props for being really odd and interesting.  Miles is in the final. Hooray!

That leaves us Peregrine and Nicole. I thought Nicole was a lock for the final. I really had no question she would make it. So when she didn’t? I was pretty pissed off. I’m not saying I really understood her Native American glowing orb over-turned plant basket thing. I didn’t. But through the course of the show she seemed really consistent and well liked by the judges. Peregrine just didn’t. I don’t understand how Pergerine’s drawings in the Welly-boot tree are final worthy when Jamie Lynn’s drawings got her kicked off the show on the Audi challenge. They look the same to me!

So I’m not happy with the female choice for the finale. I was hoping for Nicole. Miles would have been completely nuts wanting to win, but also wanting her to win. It would have been good tv.  They way it stands now, it’s really between Abdi and Miles. I think they are pretty equally matched. It’ll be a good finale if one of them wins. If Peregrine wins, be prepared for a long long blog entry.
